Just for info, as far as I know we are the only dock in the world that still has a display of ships badges dating back to well before WWII. The badges are maintained by our dockyard workers ‘touching them up’ when the workload allows and other naval ships doing the same when they enter the dock. The memory of USS Marblehead and many others, thus lives on in Simon’s Town.

As is the tradition of the Selborne Dock, the original USS Marblehead badge would have been painted by the ships crew when they dry docked in Simon’s Town for battle damage repairs in 1942. A really fascinating bit of history.
