Wish List

Every one has a Wish List.  This is my Wish List for this Web site.  If you have any of these documents or information, please contact Craig Chariton.

Photograph of Benjamin Hopkins.

Contact information for a family member of Benjamin Hopkins who would be willing to share more information about him.

Contact information for any family members of sailors from the USS Houston who were treated and evacuated by Dr. Wassell.

My uncle told me a story about a Dutch nurse who gave him her watch to use because his had been damaged during the attack.  He later learned that she had been killed by the Japanese.  I don't know her name, but would like to hear from those who could possibly be her relatives or relatives of other Dutch nurses who were involved in this operation.

More information concerning William David Hodges.

My uncle told me a story concerning a Japanese pilot who was in a POW camp in Australia.  Apparently he was a U.S. citizen, and was in Japan prior to the start of the hostilities with the U.S.  He was trained as a pilot.  The first chance he had in combat he landed his aircraft as an Allied air field and surrendered.  My uncle spoke with this gentleman through the fence.  This gentleman was shunned by the other Japanese POWs because he was an American citizen.  I am not sure at what time this occurred during the war, if it was in early 1942 or later in the war.  I would like to know if anyone knows the identity of this gentleman or any more concerning his story.

More information on the Japanese aircraft and the units involved, including photographs.

More information on the Dutch ships involved in the operation, including photographs.

There was a newspaper article in The Pueblo Chieftain in Pueblo, Colorado featuring a meeting between Dr. Wassell and my grandparents on August 16, 1944.  I use to have a copy of this, but I gave it to my uncle Donald Chariton, and now it is gone.  I would love to have another copy of this article.  If you have access to archives for The Pueblo Chieftain and can make a copy for me, please let me know.

I am planning a page concerning the voyage of the Marby from Australia to South Africa and onward to the east coast of the United States.  I have some information, but I can always use more.
